MY 3rd OCT 2018 PRESENTATION TO COLLEAGUES ON HOW I PROBABLY THINK STUDENTS LIKE MY TEACHING.

Mindmap Before Exploding
Mindmap After Exploding All Its Branches

I gave a presentation on 3 Oct 2018 to colleagues on some pointers as to some probable reasons why my students seem to like what I'm teaching them.

I was blessed to have been nominated by them for five Developmental Teaching/Teaching awards spread over the past ten years. This was after I attended the Buzan Advanced Learning Strategy Course in Oct 2005. My desire to attend this course was so great that I enrolled for it despite knowing full well that Hurricane Wilma would be in the path. I have never regretted and have always grateful to my instructors, Vanda North, Jamie Nast and Jennifer Goddard for imparting their valuable knowledge to me.

Just for the record, I have been a Mind Map enthusiast since June 1996 and a Certified Mind Map Instructor since April 1999. I have been acknowledged as a "Buzan Mentor" in 2007 by Tony Buzan, the Inventor of Mind Mapping.

Life long Learning has always been my passion in whatever I do. In today's context of fast changing technologies and skill sets, information and knowledge becomes obsolete very quickly. One must maintain the energy to keep up with the changing environment and Learn, Unlearn and Relearn in order to remain relevant in their jobs. Hence, the SkillsFuture Campaign that Singapore is promoting, is immensely important in re-equipping her workforce with relevant skills, knowledge and information needed for the global changing environment . However, people without this passion for learning and learning how to learn, WILL find it difficult to refuel their passion for learning! Let us hope, that the skills and knowledge of "Learning How To Learn" should also be considered as an essential SkillsFuture course!

The two mindmaps (with and without second/third level branches) shows how concise, but yet, so powerful on how a mindmap can assist the presenter in his delivery.

You may wish to try to use a mindmap for your next presentation. Thanks.

ME Design Thinking Project for Students

MINDMAP OF FACILITATION TASKS INVOLVED

The above mindmap drawn with the help of Mindmanager 2002, was a great help to me in providing me with a quick  overview of what I had to do.

As with every Mindmap software, the Mindmanager 2002 provided excellent links to documents, websites, ppt slides and videos. It provides me with an invaluable template of gathering all the information on a single page/slide.

My duty was to facilitate a few groups of students in preparing their motorised wheel chair model for a challenge with other groups of students. The model had to go through a series of obstacles, like opening a door, moving over bumpy ground, climbing over/down a few steps or ramp, manoeuvring through a series of columns and uneven ground before stopping at a designated area.

The project was an excellent method of getting the students to combine the various concepts of design thinking to develop a model of a motorised wheelchair that meet the needs of the customer.
